Day 1

Arrival and Pickup from Entebbe International Airport to Your Hotel, City tour if time Allows

You will be warmly welcomed at Entebbe International Airport by a representative from Likana Safaris who will assist you and transfer you to your hotel in Entebbe. Depending on your arrival time, you may also choose to explore the vibrant city of Kampala, known for its lively atmosphere and rich cultural and historical landmarks. Highlights include the Kasubi Tombs, the burial place of the Kings of Buganda, and the Bahai Temple, among other notable sites that reflect the city’s heritage. Kampala also offers a diverse culinary scene where you can enjoy a variety of local and international cuisine, including its well known Indian food restaurants. The transfer from Entebbe to Kampala takes approximately one hour. During your stay, you will be based at Best Western Premier Garden Hotel, a comfortable and convenient accommodation in Entebbe, ideal for relaxing and returning to after your day’s activities.

Day 2

Transfer to Kibale National Park - The World Primates Capital

Kibale National Park is best known for its population of around one thousand chimpanzees, which are among man’s closest genetic relatives. The park is also home to a remarkable diversity of primates, including a dozen other species such as the Uganda mangabey, a monkey unique to Uganda and rarely seen outside Kibale. In addition, it boasts an extraordinary birdlife with over three hundred and seventy recorded species, ranging from the brightly colored great blue turaco to the elusive green breasted pitta. After an early breakfast, your driver guide will arrive at your hotel for a briefing before transferring you to Kibale National Park. The journey takes approximately five hours and is highly scenic, passing through rural villages, lush green forests, rolling hills, and expansive tea plantations. Upon arrival, you will check in at a comfortable lodge offering spacious rooms and beautiful views, where you can relax and prepare for your primate tracking adventures in Kibale National Park.

Day 3

Chimpanzee Trekking and Bigodi Swamp Walk - Kibale National Park

After an early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for a briefing before setting out on an exciting chimpanzee tracking experience in Kibale Forest National Park. Renowned for its exceptional primate diversity, Kibale is home to one of the largest populations of chimpanzees in Uganda, offering an outstanding opportunity to observe them in their natural rainforest habitat. Accompanied by an experienced ranger guide, you will venture into the forest in search of a chimpanzee group, with the possibility of encountering other primate species along the way. Once located, you will spend a memorable hour observing their behavior, interactions, and movements, although sightings are not guaranteed as they remain wild animals. After lunch, enjoy a guided swamp walk that takes you through scenic grasslands, local communities, and beautiful natural surroundings, where you may experience warm cultural interactions with the locals. Later, return to Chimpundu Lodge, a peaceful retreat bordering Kibale National Park without fences, for dinner and an overnight stay surrounded by forest views and abundant birdlife.

Day 4

Crater Lakes Exploration and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, set out to explore the scenic crater lakes region near Kibale Forest, a stunning landscape of ancient volcanic lakes surrounded by rolling hills and lush greenery. This area offers breathtaking views, peaceful nature walks, and excellent opportunities for birdwatching in a serene natural setting. After the morning exploration, continue your journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s second largest and most diverse wildlife reserve. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains and bordered by Lakes Edward and George, the park is home to elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, hippos, and the famous tree climbing lions of the Ishasha sector, with occasional sightings of leopards resting on tree branches. Bird lovers will also be delighted by the presence of over six hundred species, including African spoonbills, pied kingfishers, fish eagles, pelicans, and vultures. In the afternoon, arrive at Buffalo Safari Lodge, beautifully situated within the park, where you can relax and enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding wilderness. Queen Elizabeth National Park is well known for its thriving populations of these majestic big cats, and your guides will share detailed insights into their behavior, movements, habitats, and conservation efforts as you explore the park’s rich ecosystems. In the afternoon, enjoy a relaxing boat safari along the Kazinga Channel, a forty kilometer natural waterway connecting Lake George and Lake Edward. This scenic cruise offers exceptional opportunities to observe hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes, and a wide variety of bird species along the shoreline, providing a unique perspective of the park’s abundant wildlife. Gorilla Trekking at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Batwa Cultural Experience

After an early breakfast, proceed to the Bwindi park headquarters for a detailed briefing before setting out on an unforgettable gorilla tracking experience. Accompanied by experienced guides and trackers, you will trek through the dense rainforest in search of one of Bwindi’s habituated mountain gorilla families. The journey can take between two and seven hours depending on the movement of the gorillas, involving hikes through steep and thick forest terrain. Once the gorillas are located, you will be granted one precious hour in their presence, observing their behavior, interactions, and family dynamics in their natural habitat. This rare and deeply moving encounter is widely regarded as one of the most powerful wildlife experiences in Africa. After returning from the forest and taking time to rest, the afternoon is dedicated to the Batwa Cultural Experience. The Batwa, the original forest inhabitants of Bwindi, share their traditional way of life through storytelling, demonstrations of hunting techniques, herbal medicine practices, fire making skills, and cultural performances. Your journey includes a detour through Lake Mburo National Park, a compact yet wildlife rich reserve known for its rolling acacia woodlands and abundant wildlife such as zebras, impalas, giraffes, elands, and various bird species. Here, you will enjoy a short guided walking safari, offering a final intimate encounter with Uganda’s wildlife in their natural environment.
