Arrival in Entebbe and Welcome to Uganda
Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be met by a professional Urban Jay Safaris representative. After completing immigration formalities, enjoy a private transfer to your hotel in Entebbe or Kampala depending on preference. The remainder of the day is at leisure, giving you time to recover from your international journey before the main safari begins. Overnight options include Best Western in Entebbe for a midrange stay or Hotel Number Five in Entebbe for an upper range stay.
Entebbe to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After an early breakfast, depart southwest toward Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive is scenic and culturally engaging, with brief stops en route including the Equator Line, where you can stand in both hemispheres, and local roadside markets and craft points including traditional drum makers. Arrive in Queen Elizabeth National Park in the late afternoon while keeping an eye out for wildlife as you enter the park. Check in at your lodge and relax after the journey.
Queen Elizabeth National Park Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Cruise
Start the day with a morning game drive across the Kasenyi plains, home to elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kob, lions, and a variety of antelope species. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat safari along the Kazinga Channel, a thirty two kilometre natural waterway linking Lake George and Lake Edward. This cruise offers exceptional close up viewing of hippopotamus, Nile crocodiles, elephants, and more than five hundred bird species. If time allows, enjoy a short evening game drive before returning to the lodge.
Ishasha Sector to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After breakfast, drive through the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, renowned for rare tree climbing lions often seen resting in fig and acacia trees. Continue south to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon and spend the evening at leisure, preparing for the next day’s trek.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Gorilla Trekking
Today is the highlight of your safari. After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing before setting off on your guided mountain gorilla trek. Trekking times vary depending on gorilla movements and can range from thirty minutes to several hours. Once located, you spend a magical hour observing the gorillas in their natural habitat, an intimate and deeply moving wildlife encounter. The afternoon is free to relax at the lodge and enjoy the forest surroundings.
Batwa Cultural Experience and Lake Bunyonyi
After breakfast, enjoy a half day Batwa cultural experience led by community guides. Learn about the traditional forest based lifestyle of the Batwa people, their hunting techniques, medicinal plants, and cultural heritage. Depending on availability, the visit may include the Batwa Heritage Experience, a settlement walk, or a visit to the Batwa Vocational School. After lunch, continue to Lake Bunyonyi, one of Africa’s deepest and most scenic lakes, dotted with terraced hills and islands. Arrive at your lakeside lodge and unwind.
Lake Bunyonyi to Entebbe and Departure
After breakfast, depart Lake Bunyonyi and drive back to Entebbe, enjoying the lush countryside en route. Lunch will be served along the way.
